Job Introduction
Would you like to have the chance to make a real difference in your community, and contribute to the development of our outstanding village school?
Here at Barrowby Church of England Primary School, we are currently seeking volunteers to join our Governing Body as a Co-opted Governor. Co-opted governors are people who, according to the governing body, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.
We are offering this opportunity through parents/carers of children in our school, but applications are welcome from anyone – so if you know someone who might be interested, please share this information with them. This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to help our school maintain its current high standards, and outstanding ethos, and to be part of shaping the future for our children, and our whole school community. We would particularly like to recruit members who have experience in HR and/or legal, so if you feel that you have skills or knowledge in either of these areas we would very much like to hear from you.
Why join Barrowby CE Primary School?
At Barrowby CE Primary School we aim to create a happy, encouraging and challenging environment, where we strive for excellence in teaching and learning, and where we help our children to achieve the highest possible standards and to come to terms with the world around them. We value our caring, friendly family atmosphere within which we set high standards of behaviour and good manners. We believe this is in keeping with the ethos of a church school.
We feel this helps us to provide positive and rewarding experiences with equality of opportunity for all. We strive to prepare our children for a fulfilling role in society, and believe that the partnership between home, school and the community is central to preparing our children for the adult world. We have high expectations and standards, and encourage our children to reach them by teaching a broad based and relevant curriculum.
The main responsibilities of governors are to:
• Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent;
• Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
• Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; and
• Ensuring the voices of stakeholders are heard.
You can find out more about the school and the role of school governor on these websites: https://www.barrowby.lincs.sch.uk/page/?title=Meet+the+Governors&pid=22 and www.nga.org.uk.
The successful candidate will be given a full induction including introduction to the governor training pathway, which enables all governors to access training courses for general governance and for more specialised aspects of the role. As they gain in experience, governors will take on various responsibilities on the board. Access to the secure governors’ area on our school website will be granted so that all information necessary for governing board meetings will be accessible. The full Governing Body usually meets six times a year – once per term.
Governing board members also have the opportunity to come into school to visit lessons, collective worship and all other areas of school life and are, of course, invited to join us for school celebrations such as performances and sports events, where they can see for themselves the value of their contribution.
Closing date: 02/05/25.
