Job Introduction

Clough & Risegate Community Primary School is seeking a highly organised School Bursar to join our dedicated and friendly team.

As a small, rural primary school, we are looking for someone who can provide strategic financial and operational support, working closely with the Headteacher and Governors to ensure the effective management of the school's resources. This is a key role supporting the financial operations of the school, whilst giving strategic direction ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency to the Headteacher and Governors.



Hours: Two days a week – (or equivalent flexible hours per week)
Grade: G6 15-18 FTE 37 hours weeks, term-time contract



As our Bursar, you will be responsible for managing the school’s financial systems and processes, supporting budget monitoring, and ensuring that financial procedures are followed. You will work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Administrator to maintain accurate records and support the school’s financial health.

The successful candidate will:

Lead on the school's financial management, budgeting and monitoring.
Provide strategic advice to the Headteacher and Governing Body.
Manage financial reporting and ensure compliance with statutory and local authority requirements.
Oversee procurement, contracts and value for money.
Support the effective management of school administration and business functions as required.
Work collaboratively with school staff, governors and external partners.

Essential Skills:

Minimum 3 years’ experience of working within a school as a Bursar, School Business Manager or similar finance role within a school.
Previous Responsibility for school budget preparation and management, with a thorough understanding of school finance and budgeting.
Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to work independently while providing strategic support to school leaders.
High levels of accuracy, discretion and integrity.
Desirable Skills:

A Bursar qualification such as Diploma or Certificate in School Business Management (DSBM/CSBM).
Professional accountancy qualifications (like ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or AAT) are highly valued but not always required if you have strong practical finance experience.
Previous experience of schools Business and Accounting software such as Business World and SBS (Schools Business Services) systems.
