Job Introduction
West Grantham CofE Primary Academy is seeking a committed and proactive Caretaker to help maintain a safe, secure and welcoming school environment. This is an important hands on role supporting the daily running of our school site.
Key Responsibilities
• Keep the school premises safe and secure for children, staff and visitors.
• Act as a key holder, ensuring the security and safety of the school buildings and grounds.
• Manage opening/locking up routines and respond to alarm activations and emergencies.
• Oversee the heating systems, reporting faults and ensuring required temperatures are maintained.
• Carry out general maintenance, minor repairs, cleaning of designated areas and porterage duties.
• Support the upkeep of external areas including litter collection, clearing drains, winter gritting and snow clearance.
• Supervise and liaise with contractors and support cleaning staff as needed.
• Complete routine Health & Safety checks, including fire alarms, asbestos monitoring and legionella testing.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
• Has previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance or similar practical role.
• Understands Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices.
• Is organised, reliable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
• Communicates well with staff, contractors and visitors.
• Is physically able to undertake manual duties such as moving furniture, lifting and working in confined spaces.
• Holds a full, clean UK driving licence.
