Job Introduction
Westwoodside CE Primary Academy is seeking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join our supportive educational team. In this role, you will work across the full primary age range, playing a pivotal part in raising standards and fostering independent learning.
You will work under the general direction of our leadership team to support pupils—including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN)—with their unique academic, personal care, and socio-emotional requirements. Key Responsibilities
Learning Support: Plan, organise, and deliver structured learning activities for individuals and small groups, adapting and differentiating tasks to meet specific needs and foster pupil independence.
PPA Cover: Actively cover classes independently during teacher PPA sessions, confidently delivering pre-set work and maintaining high educational standards.
Behaviour Management: Monitor pupil conduct across the school, proactively employing de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour techniques to resolve complex or challenging issues and preserve a calm, safe environment.
Assessment & Record Keeping: Observe achievements, maintain accurate progress records, and provide comprehensive feedback and formal reports to classroom teachers to support the broader assessment framework.
Personal & Pastoral Care: Attend to physical, medical, and personal care routines (including mobility support, dressing, and hygiene management), while extending compassionate pastoral care to sick or distressed pupils.
Collaboration: Liaise effectively with teachers, parents, and therapeutic professionals to deliver specialist support plans and ensure fluid communication during handovers.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications: Full Teaching Assistant Level 3 (or above) qualification, alongside a good basic education (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Mathematics).
Experience: Proven track record of working successfully with young people within a regulated or formal educational environment.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of child development, behaviour management strategies, safeguarding practices, and the primary National Curriculum
Skills: Ability to guide small group/whole-class tasks, simplify complex concepts, establish positive boundaries, work with minimal supervision, and demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills.

Fluency Duty
In accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 (Fluency Duty), the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
