Job Introduction
SEND HUB Teacher required for January 2027 (MPS1 – MPS6)
Temporary (until 31st August 2027)
In January 2027, due to the recent opening of our new SEN Hub, we are looking for an enthusiastic SEND teacher to lead our informal classroom. The successful candidate will work closely alongside the Teaching Assistants, the class teacher of our semi-formal classroom and our SENDCO to ensure that pupils receive high-quality, personalised provision and make the best possible progress. The right candidate will be instrumental in shaping a bespoke learning environment from the ground up. You will lead a specialised classroom designed for pupils with complex needs (primarily Speech, Language, Communication & Interaction and Cognition & Learning) who require a highly adapted approach to the national curriculum. The children are in KS1 working on an informal pathway.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning
• Pathway Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality lessons tailored to pupils accessing informal (sensory/engagement-based), (life skills/functional) learning pathways.
• Individualised Care: Adopt a deeply patient and caring approach, ensuring the physical, emotional, and sensory needs of every child are met to create a safe, low-arousal learning space.
• Curriculum Adaptation: Design bespoke learning experiences that move beyond traditional academic milestones, focusing on communication, independence, and social-emotional growth.
2. Assessment and Progress Tracking
• Specialised Tracking: Use specialist assessment frameworks to track small-step progress for children with significant learning gaps.
• Evidence of Learning: Maintain robust portfolios of "Evidence for Learning" to showcase holistic development beyond standard testing.
3. Statutory Duties and Collaboration
• Annual Reviews: Take a role in the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) Annual Review process, writing detailed reports and contributing professional insights into pupil progress and future outcomes.
• Multi-Agency Working: Collaborate daily with Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs), Occupational Therapists, and Educational Psychologists to integrate therapeutic goals into the classroom routine.
• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring a cohesive and nurturing "team around the child" approach.
Person Specification
• Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
• Experience: Proven track record of working with pupils with significant to complex needs.
• Mindset: A resilient, calm, and empathetic nature. You must be someone who celebrates "the small wins" and views every challenge as a communication opportunity.
• Expertise: Experience in using AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), Attention Autism, Intensive interaction and Makaton.
