Safeguarding and Family Support Lead - Manor Leas Junior Academy

Job Introduction


The Trustees and Headteacher of Manor Leas Junior Academy are looking to recruit a Safeguarding and Family Support Lead

As the Safeguarding and Family Support Lead, you will provide high-quality safeguarding and pastoral support across the academy, working with others to ensure appropriate plans and strategies are in place to support healthy social and emotional development of our pupils.

You will help ensure pupils are ready to learn and support them in and outside of the classroom. You will carry out the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and will work with families and professionals to ensure the best outcomes for all of our pupils.

You will be part of a supportive team that prioritises continuous professional development and a strong team ethos, working closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, SENCO and external agencies to ensure consistent, support throughout the Academy.

The Role

● Location: Manor Leas Junior Academy, Hykeham Road, Lincoln, LN6 8BE
● Salary Scale: Scale 6, Points 15-18
 £31,015.00 – £33,673.00 FTE
 £27,009.29 – £29,324.00 (Actual)
● Contract Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week – Term time + 5 days
● Reports to: SLT
● Start Date: ASAP
● Interviews held: W/C 5th October 2026.

As the Safeguarding and Family Support Lead, you will take a proactive role in leading the day-to-day operational safeguarding procedures in the academy, providing a first point of contact for child protection, or welfare concerns across the Academy.

Serving as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) and subsequently the Designated Safeguarding Lead (after a suitable period of time), you will build strong working relationships with children, parents/carers, and external partners to ensure high standards of pastoral care and child protection. The role will be part of the Academy Extended leadership Team (ELT), and the successful candidate would be expected to attend regular E.L.T meetings.

Key Responsibilities
• Safeguarding - act as DDSL/DSL, implement child protection policies, champion best practise, respond to disclosures and maintain accurate confidential records
• Be a first point of contact and rapid response for child protection and welfare concerns across the Academy
• Co-ordinate multi-agency referrals, act as lead professional in team around the family meetings and liaise closely with children's services and statutory agencies
• Signpost families to local support networks and statutory and voluntary services
• Work directly with children and families to strengthen relationships, secure early help/Team around the family support
• Be lead administrator on MyConcern ensuring that all tasks are allocated and actioned within a timely manner and that cases are regularly reviewed and followed up where it required.
• Assist the Senior Attendance Champion and Attendance Administrator with attendance concerns, sharing family knowledge and challenges and ensure that attendance is considered in all Early help and Team around the family plans.
• Assist the School Business Manager with policy management

Essential Requirements:

• 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C/4 or above, including English and Maths, alongside evidence of recent professional development.
• Recent DSL training (or willingness to obtain) with comprehensive knowledge of Child Protection procedures, statutory guidance, and Ofsted frameworks.
• Proven experience working with vulnerable children, young people, and families within a school, social work, or youth work environment.
• Ability to handle complex cases, produce concise reports, complete risk assessments, and maintain strict confidentiality.
• Excellent time management, communication, and relationship-building skills to engage positively in team environments.
• Good ICT skills
• A deep commitment to safeguarding and Manor Leas Junior Academy’s RISE values.

Desirable Requirements:
● First Aid qualification
• Experience of Early Help/Team around the Family

We are a friendly school, with a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating, located off Hykeham Road in Lincoln. We have 290 children currently on roll and are KS2 only.
