A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at Hackthorn CofE Primary School.

Hackthorn CofE Primary wish to appoint a committed 1:1 SEN teaching assistant to support pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We have several pupils with EHCPs, and the role may be split across these pupils (in both KS1 and KS2), depending on the needs at the time. We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in working with children with special education needs! The successful candidate will be able to build strong relationships, think creatively, be skilled in co-regulation and possess a range of strategies to support our young learners day to day.
The start date is as soon as possible but no later than 1st September 2026. Ideally 15th June 2026 (discussion to be had with candidates).
This post would suit someone who:
• Is passionate about supporting pupils with special educational needs
• Has knowledge and experience of supporting pupils with a diverse range of Special Educational Needs, including but not limited to: Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attachment and Developmental Trauma, and Sensory Processing Needs, and can use a range of evidence based strategies to meet these needs
• Is committed to building positive relationships
• Is skilled in supporting pupils with regulation through co-regulation
• Is calm, patient and empathetic
• Is resourceful and can ‘think on their feet’
• Can set and communicate clear boundaries and expectations
• Can respond to challenges with a positive mindset
• Understands how to nurture every child as an individual
• Has clear communication skills
• Is a proactive team player, who can use their initiative and who makes things happen
• Is willing to make a positive contribution through engaging in wider school activities

Conditions of contract:
The successful candidate will be employed solely for the purpose of assisting with the special needs of a named child whilst the child attends and requires assistance at Hackthorn CofE Primary School. This contract is temporary and the end date will be when the pupil is no longer on roll, however, the contract may be ended sooner in the event that a decision is made that assistance is no longer required for the child at this school due to a change in the need for assistance. Notice will be given in accordance with statutory provisions and terms and conditions of service.

Fluency Duty
