Job Introduction
Inspire the next generation of History at the school where it all began with Newton.
The King's School, Grantham, is seeking a Teacher of History to join our thriving department.
Founded in 1528, King's is a selective Grammar School with a proud tradition of academic excellence. Sir Isaac Newton is our most famous alumnus, but every great scientist has a story, and it is historians who tell it. At King's, History is a subject that matters.
This is a department where students genuinely engage with the past. 20 students out of our Year 12 cohort choose to study History at A level each year, and our students consistently achieve exceptional results. They are motivated, intellectually curious and relish the kind of analytical challenge that History demands. For a History teacher, that is a rare and rewarding combination.
We welcome applications from both experienced practitioners and early career teachers. What matters most is a genuine passion for History and the ability to bring the subject to life in the classroom. Whether you are an accomplished teacher looking for a department that matches your ambition, or someone at the start of your career seeking an environment where you will be properly supported and developed, this role offers a real opportunity to grow.
You will benefit from well-resourced classrooms, including an interactive teaching surface and air-conditioned classrooms.
A comprehensive induction and CPD programme will be tailored to your career stage, and the school has a strong track record of developing and promoting its staff.
The start date for this position is 1 September 2026.
To be considered for this role, please apply directly through the TES website.
Whilst a closing date for applications has been set, we reserve the right to interview and appoint a suitable candidate prior. This being the case, we would encourage early applications for the post.
Please note that feedback will only be provided to candidates whose applications progress to the interview stage.
Safeguarding and recruitment information:
The King's School is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be expected to follow school safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of students.
Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers. As this post is considered a regulated activity, a check through the Disclosure and Barring Service, including the children's barred list, will be made. Shortlisted candidates should be aware that the school may conduct online searches as part of our due diligence process. Successful applicants must be familiar with and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection and promoting the welfare of students.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules — see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-filtering-guidance) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
