‘Rooted in love, we flourish and grow.’ Ephesians 3:17b  A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at Hackthorn CofE Primary School.

Work Pattern: Full-time – Monday – Friday.

Contract: Fixed term/Temporary (whilst the child attends the school). Term time only (38 weeks), + 5 training days. 6.25 hours per day = 31.25 hours.

Hackthorn CofE Primary wish to appoint a committed 1:1 SEN teaching assistant to predominantly support a Key Stage 2 pupil (Year 3) with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in working with children with special education needs! The pupil can find the school environment a challenge at times, and the successful candidate will be able to build strong relationships, think creatively, be skilled in behaviour management and possess a range of strategies to support our young learner day to day.

The start date is 2nd June 2025.

  • Is passionate about supporting pupils with special educational needs
  • Has knowledge and experience of working with children with a range of SEN, including: foetal alcohol syndrome, attachment disorder, sensory processing disorder, ADHD and is able to employ a range of strategies to support children with these needs

  • Is skilled in managing challenging behaviour
  • Is calm, patient and empathetic
  • Is resourceful and can ‘think on their feet’
  • Can set and communicate clear boundaries and expectations
  • Can respond to challenges with a positive mindset

  • Is a proactive team player, who can use their initiative and who makes things happen
  • Is willing to make a positive contribution through engaging in wider school activities

Conditions of contract:
The successful candidate will be employed solely for the purpose of assisting with the special needs of a named child whilst the child attends and requires assistance at Hackthorn CofE Primary School. This contract is temporary and the end date will be when the pupil is no longer on roll, however, the contract may be ended sooner in the event that a decision is made that assistance is no longer required for the child at this school due to a change in the need for assistance. Notice will be given in accordance with statutory provisions and terms and conditions of service.

Fluency Duty

In accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 (Fluency Duty), the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
